Jessica Vall Completes Breaststroke Sweep in Spain

Action at the Spanish Summer Championships wrapped up today. Mireia Belmonte grabbed another win while a number of other swimmers also completed their meets with another trip onto the podium.

Belmonte added to the week’s victories with a 4:05.57 in the 400 freestyle. Melani Costa won two events yesterday and tonight she was runner up with a 4:07.05.

Jessica Vall added to yesterday‘s 100 breaststroke title with a winning 2:27.43 in the 200. That time put her well ahead of the field as Berta Canto finished second in 2:32.07. Sandra Garcia turned in a 2:33.82 for third.

Eduardo Solaeche finished under two minutes with his 1:59.77 to win the 200 IM. He also won the 100 breaststroke yesterday. Alejandro Garcia swam a 2:02.34 for second and Alan Cabello posted a 2:02.74 to complete the podium.

Patricia Castro Ortega finished third in the 100 freestyle, second in the 200 freestyle, and tonight she came out on top in the 200 IM. She grabbed the title in 2:14.31. Africa Zamorano was just behind with a 2:14.75. Beatriz Gomez was third with a 2:15.73.

Miguel Duran won the men’s 400 freestyle with a 3:49.42, just under a second ahead of Marc Sanchez with a 3:50.29.

Manuel Valdivia out touched Alberto Lozano by .02 to win the men’s 50 butterfly 23.83 to 23.85.

The women’s 50 butterfly was also quite close as Lidon Munoz touched in 27.68 to Judit Ignacio‘s 27.80.

Joan Ballester clocked a 2:15.46 to win the men’s 200 breaststroke. Second went to Mario Cortes in 2:16.17. Alejandro Raez completed the podium with a 2:16.39.
