Jeanette Ottesen Claims Two Top Seeds In Day Two Prelims of Dubai World Cup

Day two prelims of the 2016 FINA World Cup Series in Dubai saw many swimmers claiming multiple top seeds.

Jeanette Ottesen squeezed underneath the 54-second mark in prelims of the women’s 100 free. She returns as the top seed for tonight’s final along with Brittany Elmslie (54.12), Katinka Hosszu (54.18), and Madeline Groves (54.22).

Ottesen also posted the top qualifying time in the women’s 50 fly (26.47)

Hosszu turned in qualifying times in the 100 back (1:00.89), 400 free (2:04.87), 200 fly (2:04.87), 400 free (4:19.35), 100 IM (59.55), 50 fly (26.90)

Two men posted times underneath the 1:48-mark in the men’s 200 free to lead a tightly bunched field. Pieter Timmers posted the fastest time at a 1:47.59 over Myles Brown’s 1:47.75.

Alia Atkinson leads a strong breaststroke contingent into finals of the women’s 50 breast with the only sub-30 second swim–a 29.48.

Both Li Xiang and Daiya Seto slipped past the one-minute marker in prelims of the men’s 100 breaststroke with qualifying times of 59.08 and 59.14 respectively.

Seto turned in the top time for prelims of the men’s 200 IM, returning as the top seed with a 2:00.70.

Daryna Zevina delivered a dominating swim in prelims of the women’s 100 back, stopping the clock at a 58.57 to be the only swimmer underneath the one-minute mark. Additionally, the swimmer posted the top time in the women’s 400 free (4:!6.66) by close to three seconds.

Prelims of the men’s 50 back were highlighted by close qualifications. Miguel Orpiz-Canavate (23.72), Takeshi Kawamoto (23.75), and Pavel Sankovich (23.79) all posted qualifying times within .07 seconds of one another.

Philip Heintz (51.60) leads a quad of quick swimmers into finals of the men’s 100 fly. Heintz will be joined by Kawamoto (51.76), Chad le Clos (51.89), and Josh Prenot (51.93).

Vladimir Morozov will look to maintain his crown in the men’s 50 free, entering finals as the top seed with a 21.51.

Stanislav Donetc out-swam the competition in prelims of the men’s 200 back with a qualifying time of 1:59.41.
