Jamaican Olympian Joins Coaching Staff at Duke University

DURHAM, North Carolina, September 30. DAWN Chuck, a two-time Olympian for Jamaica, has been named an assistant coach at Duke University. Head coach Dan Colella made the announcement earlier this week. Chuck swam in the 2000 and 2004 Olympic Games and is a product of Brown University, where she was an Ivy league champion in the 100 and 200 freestyles.

"I am very excited to have Dawn join the Duke swimming family," said Colella. "I feel that we will complement one another well as we start off on this new era in Duke swimming and diving. Having graduated from Brown University, she understands what our student-athletes are facing in terms of academic and athletic challenges at an institution like Duke University. She also brings a wealth of competitive experience that will benefit the members of our team."

Chuck earned a master’s degree in Sport Psychology from the University of Florida in 2005. While in Gainesville, Chuck worked as a swimming instructor for Swim America of Gainesville and the Gator Swim Club, but the position at Duke will be her first at the collegiate coaching level.

"I’m excited to become a part of the Duke team," said Chuck. "After talking to Coach Colella, I can see that there is a lot of room for improvement, and the team is very motivated and excited for change. I am excited to be involved in that."
