Italy has selected a 48-strong squad for the European Championships in Paris next month.

The team – comprising 26 men and 22 women – features the likes of Sara Curtis who has risen to the top table of European sprinting this year. The 19-year-old set a 27.07 European 50 back record at the Sette Colli International last month. She also lowered the Italian 50 and 100 free marks to 24.09 and 52.69 in Rome.

Thomas Ceccon, who won four golds among six medals at the 2022 edition in Rome, Olympic 100m breaststroke champion Nicolo Martinenghi and Carlos D’Ambrosio who followed up 4×100 free silver at the 2025 World Championships with the 100/200 free double amid a seven-medal haul at the world juniors in Otopeni.

Simona Quadarella won the 400/800/1500 triple crown in 2018 and 2021 with Isabel Gose’s 400 victory denying her the treble treble in Rome four years ago. The German tops the European women’s rankings over 400 and 1500 this year – albeit by less than a second in the latter – with Quadarella heading the 800.

Benedetta Pilato and Chiara Tarantino return to international competition in the French capital. The pair were banned after being arrested for shoplifting following the 2025 worlds in Singapore and incurred 90-day bans that ruled them out of the European Short-Course Championships.

Gregorio Paltrinieri and Ginevra Taddeucci have also been named in the squad to race the 1500 free should they decide to compete on top of their open water exertions in the River Seine.
