Italian Grand Prix Circuit Comes to End

TRAVAGLIATO, Italy, November 25. THE Italian Grand Prix came to a close with its third stage in four days at the Travagliato stop. South Africa's Suzaan van Biljon proved to be the only double-winner on the day with a breaststroke sweep. The South African first claimed the 100 breast with a time of 1:07.72, while also claiming the 200 in a time of 2:24.23.

Meanwhile, Italians dominated most of the rest of the winners. Eleonara Celada (100 free – 56.71), Giulia Bolgiani (400 free – 4:11.20), Margherita Ganz (200 back – 2:13.32), Francesca Segat (100 fly – 59.06) and Giorgia Gramillano (100 IM – 1:03.16) picked up wins for the Italian women. Michele Cosentino (200 free – 1:48.93), Loris Facci (200 breast – 2:11.49) and Christian Galenda (100 IM – 54.75) each earned a title for the Italian men.

Slovenia's Sara Isakovic took a run at her own national record of 1:56.86 in the 200 free with a winning time of 1:57.69, while Brazil's Fabiola Molina did the same in the 50 back with a time of 27.76, just off her record of 27.56. New Zealand's Zoe Baker scared another national record, this time with a 27.35 in the 50 fly, just off New Zealand's Georgina Tooney (26.79). Additionally, Slovenia's Anja Klinar won the 400 IM in 4:46.23.

The men proved to have a deeper international field with a mixed bag of international talent winning titles.

Brazil's Cesar Cielo went after his national record in the 100 free of 47.00 set at the Genova stop with a winning time of 47.40, while Ukrainian record holder Sergiy Fesenko posted a time of 3:45.35 in the 400 free – off his standard of 3:40.92 from 2005.

The United States' David Cromwell placed well off Randall Bal's American record of 23.33 in the 50 back, but still won in 24.57, while teammate Ben Hesen placed second in 25.10. In other action, Austria's Markus Rogan claimed the 200 back in 1:53.97.

A pair of South Africans won events as Cameron van der Burgh touched in 59.24 in the 100 breast, while Riaan Schoeman clocked a 4:12.80 in the 400 IM. Other wins also came from Great Britain's Mark Foster in the 50 fly (23.54) and Serbia's Milorad Cavic in the 100 fly (51.64).
