DOHA – Israeli Swimming has picked five swimmers to compete at the 2014 World Short Course Championships in Doha, Qatar.

While Amit Ivry will be the lone female representative, four men will also fly the Israeli flag in Doha as Guy Barnea, Gal Nevo, Yakov Toumarkin and David Gomberg are all set to swim in Qatar as well.

The last time Ivry competed in Doha, local organizers made a point of not mentioning Israel as a country and even wiped out the Israeli flag from television graphics at the 2013 FINA World Cup stop a year ago during the women’s 100-meter IM.

It will be interesting to see how vigilant FINA is this time around to ensure such discriminatory practices do not take place during the World Championships.
