Isabel Ivey, Relay 1-2 Leads California to Win over USC

Isabel Ivey won the 100 freestyle and 200 freestyle and paced a 1-2 relay sweep as Cal started its weekend in Southern California on Friday with a 157-137 win over USC in a battle of top 10 teams.

Ivey claimed the 200 free in 1:46.36. The 100 free was tighter, with Ivey going 49.41 to edge USC’s Laticia-Leigh Transom by .24 seconds. Transom was also second in the 200 free.

Ivey manned the second leg of the women’s 400 freestyle relay, teaming with Ella Mazurek, Emma Davidson and Elise Garcia to win in 3:17.90. Ema Rajic rallied the B team to finish second by a tenth over USC and banish any hopes of a comeback.

Isabel Stadden picked up a pair of wins for the seventh-ranked Golden Bears, who take on UCLA Saturday. She outdueled Calypso Sheridan in the 100 backstroke, outsplitting her by more than a second in the final 50 in a time of 52.96. Stadden also won the 200 back in 1:56.31. Garcia won the 50 free by .01 over USC’s Hanna Henderson in another pivotal swing.

Ayla Spitz won the 500 free. Teammate Sarah DiMeco was third in the 500 and second in the 1,000. Cal went 1-2 in the 200 butterfly, Rachel Klinker getting the win in 1:56.12 and Mia Kragh finishing second. Kragh would get the better of Sheridan in the 100 fly in 53.32. Leah Polonsky was second in both breaststroke events and third in the IM.

No. 10 USC got two wins from Isabelle Odgers. She went 2:09.90 to easily win the 200 breast and was the only sub-2-minute individual medley finisher at 1:58.49. Katilyn Dobler won the 100 breast. Caroline Pennington (9:52.55) won the 1,000 free and was second in the 500. Sheridan, Dobler, Transom and Anicka Delgado won the 200 medley relay in 1:37.66.
