Iowa HS State Champion Sophie Sorenson Verbally Commits to Kentucky
New Commit: Sophie Sorenson has verbally committed to the University of Kentucky’s Class of 2022. Sorenson swims for Ames Cyclone Aquatics Club where she is a backstroker and sprint freestyler. She’ll add depth to what has recently been an impressive group of Wildcat backstrokers.
The rising senior at Ames Senior High School is a high school swimming state record holder. At the 2016 Iowa High School Girls state championship meet Ames took home the state title in dominating fashion. Swimming freestyle, Sorenson combined with her teammates to crush the state record in the 200 medley relay. She went on to touch second in the 200 IM and then lead a team sweep of the 100 backstroke. She also led off the school’s winning 400 freestyle relay.

- 200 Back 1:57.11
- 50 Free 23.11
- 100 Free 51.05
In her announcement on her Instagram Sorenson said, “So excited to announce my verbal commitment to the University of Kentucky. Can’t wait to call Lexington my new home! Go Wildcats!!”
She explained her decision on College Swimming, “I chose the University of Kentucky because of the amazing coaches and team. They have an awesome backstroke program, and I cannot wait to be a part of it.”
