The IOC has announced that the Evaluation Committee will be officially visiting the 2024 Candidate Cities in May. In ordinance with the Olympic Agenda 2020, the Committee will travel to Los Angeles May 10-12 and Paris May 14-16 with a three-stage format. According to the IOC, these three stages include initial proposals, venue tours and final wrap-up discussions.

The 2020 Agenda also promotes sustainability, transparency and legacy. For example, it allows host sites to execute preliminary sessions outside of the host city and encourages maximum use of pre-existing facilities.

IOC Evaluation Commission Chair Patrick Baumann said the ultimate goal is to provide the best experience for the athletes but also help the host cities in their long-term social and economic development.

“We have two excellent candidates,” Baumann said. “I and the other members of the Evaluation Commission are looking forward to learning more about their proposals and getting a first-hand look at the prospective venues…We want to see how the Olympic Games will take shape in 2024, we are not conducting an examination.”

The evaluation process has been going on since September of 2015, starting with vision and concept. The next stage was governance, legalities and funding, and it ends with Games legacy and experience.

This process has allowed the IOC to work with the host cities and provide feedback along the way. This too, was brought forth by the 2020 Agenda, which was written to create a better overall Olympic experience for all.

After traveling to both host cities, the Committee will meet in Lausanne on July 5. Both cities will then get the chance for one last proposal and/or response to this report at the 2024 Candidate City Briefing for IOC Members and International Federations in Lausanne July 11-12.

The host city election will be held in Lima on September 13.

Details for the proposed aquatic venue in Paris can be found here, while a full video tour of the possible Los Angeles facilities is also available.
