Inside With Brett Hawke: Chad Le Clos Wants 200 Free Silver Behind Sun Yang Turned to Gold

In the latest episode of the Inside with Brett Hawke Podcast, which continues to produce superb interviews with some of the top names in the sport, the host sits down with South African Olympic champion Chad Le Clos. During the hour-long interview, Hawke and Le Clos discuss numerous topics, ranging from his breakthrough at the 2010 Commonwealth Games, to his upset victory over Michael Phelps at the 2012 Olympic Games to his focus on this summer’s Olympics in Tokyo.

Le Clos and Hawke also discuss the silver medal Le Clos won in the 200 freestyle at the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, where he was beaten by China’s Sun Yang. With Sun’s tainted doping history, which includes a failed test and the breaking of a blood vial in the presence of drug testers, Le Clos noted that he believes his silver medal should be upgraded to gold and he should be viewed as an athlete whose Olympic ledger reads two individual gold medals and two individual silver medals, rather than one and three.

Le Clos has long been outspoken about doping in the sport and his matter-of-fact approach is to be applauded as it pertains to the situation he endured, and how the sport should be governed.

Here is the full interview between Hawke, a two-time Olympian for Australia, and Le Clos.
