The only swimmer to scratch out of an event was Italy’s Ilaria Bianchi, who withdrew after finishing 13th in the 200 fly prelims. Switzerland’s Martina Van Berkel, who finished 17th in prelims, moves into the last spot for the semis.

Also, after there was a tie for second alternate in the men’s 100 free between Richard Bohus and Dylan Carter, 17th-place finisher Joseph Schooling stepped aside, moving Bohus and Carter to the co-first alternate position, avoiding a swim-off. Carter is listed first on the start list for that event.

Top seeds for the five finals on the evening program include Katie Ledecky in the women’s 200 free, Daiya Seto in the men’s 200 fly, Adam Peaty in the men’s 50 breast, Gregorio Paltrinieri in the men’s 800 free and the United States in the mixed 400 medley relay.

In semi-final action, Cameron McEvoy will be seeded first in the men’s 100 free, Fu Yuanhui holds down the No. 1 position in the women’s 50 back and Kosuke Hagino and Katinka Hosszu are ranked first in the men’s 200 IM and women’s 200 fly, respectively.
