Hausing, Benfeito Grasp 1st Individual Golds on FINA Diving World Series

MONTERREY, Mexico, June 9. FIRST-time host Monterrey (MEX), the last of six meets, successfully concluded the FINA/NVC Diving World Series 2014 with once again a top-notch three-day competition, held from June 6-8 and featuring the best divers in action. China walked away with six victories, Germany and Canada earned one title each. Great Britain, Malaysia, Mexico and Russia also climbed the podium in Monterrey.

Reigning World champion He Chong (CHN) was beaten in the men’s 3m springboard final by Germany’s Patrick Hausding, who scored a total 522.25, claiming his first individual World Series gold. Jack Laugher (GBR) secured the bronze with 504.65 points. He Chong is the overall World Series winner in the event with 93 points.

After three silver-medal finishes this season, current World champion Qiu Bo (CHN) was back on top in the men’s 10m platform, amassing 571.15 points. Tom Daley (GBR) took second with 577.20 points while Victor Minibaev (RUS) placed third with 557.90 points. The Russian is the overall World Series winner in the event, with 76 points, for the second year in a row.

Among women, Shi Tingmao (CHN) prevailed in the 3m springboard, winning with 369.90 points ahead of local Laura Sanchez, 362.40. Jennifer Abel (CAN) claimed the bronze with 351.55. Wang Han (CHN) is the overall World Series winner in the event with 82 points.

In the 10m platform, Meaghan Benfeito (CAN) tasted her first individual World Series victory, finishing with a total score of 398.20. Runner-up Liu Huixia (CHN) totalled 395.30 points while Alejandra Estrella (MEX) took third, scoring 369.20. Liu Huixia is the overall World Series winner in the event with 98 points.

China is the overall World Series winner in all four synchro events.
