Griffin Alaniz, Maddie Baker Grab ACC Swimmer of the Week Honors

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Florida State’s Griffin Alaniz has been selected as the ACC Men’s Swimmer of the Week, and North Carolina’s Maddie Baker has been named the ACC Women’s Swimmer of the Week.

Alaniz posted two NCAA provisional times at the Auburn Invite against three top 20 squads. The sophomore from Rockville, Maryland, faced off with his Seminole teammates against No. 3 Florida, and Alabama and Auburn, both tied for No. 16. Alaniz won the 200 back with a time of 1:43.37, and placed second in the 400 IM, clocking a 3:49.68.

Baker turned in a strong showing for the Tar Heels at the Janis Hape Dowd Nike Invitational, swimming against No. 10 NC State and No. 25 Duke. The freshman from Anderson, South Carolina, won all three events in which she competed, and posted NCAA provisional times in each. Baker won the 200 fly with a time of 1:59.18, the 200 IM with a time of 2:00.87, and clocked a 400 IM time of 4:18.84.
