Gregorio Paltrinieri And Giulia Gabrielleschi Claim Tightest Of Victories At LEN Open Water Cup

Gregorio Paltrinieri and Giulia Gabrielleschi both claimed by just 0.1secs in their respective men’s and women’s races at the LEN Open Water Cup in Piombino, Italy.

Olympic bronze medallist Paltrinieri won in 1:53:46.4 ahead of fellow Italian Domenico Acerenza who clocked 1:53:46.5.

Tokyo silver medallist Kristof Rasovszky of Hungary was narrowly behind in 1:53:47.2 in third as only 10secs separated the top 12 men.

Gabrielleschi and Germany’s Leonie Beck fought shoulder-to-shoulder at the end and the Italian was just a fraction of a second faster in touching in 2:03:25.6 to 2:03:25.7.

Martina de Memme, winner of Leg 1, was a further 2.7sec adrift for bronze in 2:03:28.3 with 10secs separating the top 10.
