Gettysburg vs. Ursinus

GETTYSBURG, Pennsylvania, November 20. BOTH of the Gettysburg College swimming teams kept their perfect record intact on Saturday, sweeping Ursinus College in a Centennial Conference dual meet at the Gettysburg College Bullets Pool.

The men's team won eight of 11 events en route to a 133-74 victory while the women's squad came away with a 123-84 win.

Both Ursinus squads fell to 3-2 and 1-1 with the losses.

Leading the men's team (5-0, 4-0 CC) were juniors Matt Libby (Freeport, Maine/Cheverus) and Roger Nawrocki (Boxborough, Mass./Acton-Boxborough Regional), who each won two individual events and swam on a winning relay team. Libby touched first in both the 100-free (47.67) and the 200-free (1:44.69) while Nawrocki prevailed in the 200-IM (2:04.30) and the 100-breast (1:02.77).

Other individual winners were juniors Tom Everett (Timonium, Md./McDonogh) in the 100-fly (54.52) and Drew Close (Berwyn, Pa./Haverford School) in the 500-free (4:57.79).

Senior Adam Taft (Wilton, Conn./Wilton), Nawrocki, Everett, and Close teamed up to win the 200 medley relay in 1:40.46 while freshman Sean Staerk (Abington, Pa./Abington), Close, freshman Adam Weinbrom (Chatham, N.J./Chatham), and Libby captured the 200 free relay in 1:28.92.

In women's action, Gettysburg took first in six events, including both relays. Individually, freshman Logan Swisher (Baltimore, Md./Towson) claimed the 1,000-free in 11:14.78 while senior Maggie Mulderrig (Baltimore, Md./Notre Dame Prep) won the 50-free in 25.42. Other winners were freshman Ali Roth (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks West) in the 100-free (55.51) and sophomore Cassie Close (Berwyn, Pa./Conestoga) in the 100-back (1:03.62).

Junior Kayte Demont (Cumberland, Maine/North Yarmouth Academy), sophomore Brooke Lacey (Darien, Conn./Darien), Mulderrig, and sophomore Deirdre Purdy (Bedford, N.Y./Fox Lane) opened the meet by winning the 200-medley relay in 1:54.28, and Roth, Purdy, Mulderrig, and sophomore Caroline Coolidge (West Hartford, Conn./Kingswood-Oxford) closed it with a 1:40.70 triumph in the 200 free-relay.
