Georgia Women’s Swimming Stretches Home Win Streak to 93, Bulldogs Split With Texas

ATHENS – The University of Georgia women’s swimming and diving team won its 93rd consecutive home dual meet Saturday against Texas, while the Bulldog men dropped a close meet to the Longhorns in Athens. The Georgia women earned a 163.5-136.5 win, while the Longhorn men came out ahead by just 16 points, 158-142.

Twenty seven of Georgia’s team points came from Hali Flickinger, who won three individual events. Flickinger got to the wall first in the 200 fly (1:55.46), 200 back (1:53.71) and 400 IM (4:12.36) to provide a huge boost for the Bulldogs.

No other Georgia swimmers or divers recorded multiple wins, but the Bulldogs did get single victories from Jordan Mattern in the 200 free (1:47.15), Madeline Locus in the 50 free (22.80), Chantal Van Landeghem in the 100 free (50.28), Amber McDermott in the 500 free (4:46.08) and Lauren Harrington in the 100 fly (53.26).

Texas’ Gretchen Jaques also garnered multiple wins, posting the top time of the day in both the 100 (1:00.33) and 200 (2:12.58) breaststroke events. Kaitlin Pawlowicz (1000 free, 9:43.82) and Sarah Denninghoff (100 back, 53.50) also picked up wins, while Emma Ivory-Ganja (1-meter, 364.05) and Meghan Houston (3-meter, 309.23) swept the diving events for the Longhorns.

Texas swept both women’s relays, with Tasija Karosas, Gretchen Jaques, Mimi Schneider and Rebecca Millard claiming the 200 medley relay in 1:39.93 and Jaques, Sarah Denninghoff, Karosas and Kelsey Leneave posting a 3:19.80 in the 400 free relay.

Meanwhile, the Texas men overcame a second-place showing in the opening medley relay to take the win, thanks to multiple individual wins by Clark Smith and Jack Conger and a dominating performance in the diving well.

Smith posted impressive victories in the 1000 free (9:00.73) and 500 free (4:19.94), negative splitting both races and just out-touching Georgia’s Kevin Litherland (9:02.28) and Matias Koski (4:20.10) to pick up five additional points in each event. Conger won both backstroke events for the Longhorns, stopping the clock at 47.78 in the 100 and 1:43.34 in the 200.

Mark Anderson scored 398.25 points to win the men’s 1-meter, while teammate Will Chandler topped the 3-meter with 444.68 points. Brett Ringgold (100 free, 43.78) and Joseph Schooling (100 fly, 46.61) also won individual events for Texas.

Nicolas Fink doubled for Georgia, putting up the fastest time in the 100 (53.58) and 200 breast (1:55.19) events. Georgia also got wins from Gunnar Bentz (200 free, 1:35.55), Tynan Stewart (200 fly, 1:44.09), Michael Trice (50 free, 19.83) and Chase Kalisz (400 IM, 3:46.65).

Georgia claimed both relay events, as Taylor Dale, Nicolas Fink, Tynan Stewart and Michael Trice topped the opening 200 medley relay in 1:27.06 and Gunnar Bentz, Matias Koski, Trice and Fink posted a 2:56.19 to win the 400 free relay.
