Georgia Women Down American Record During Day One of Southeastern Conference Championships; Conor Dwyer Just Misses 200 Free National Mark

GAINESVILLE, Florida, February 16. THE Georgia women downed the American record in the women's 800-yard freestyle relay during the first day of the Southeastern Conference Championships.

The Georgia foursome of Morgan Scroggy (1:42.60), Chelsea Nauta (1:43.86), Melanie Margalis (1:43.87) and Allison Schmitt (1:43.25) turned in a scintillating time of 6:53.58.

That performance wiped out the 6:54.02 set by Auburn during the 2009 SEC Championships.

Notably, Florida and Auburn led the women's team race after day one with 103 points each.

Meanwhile, Florida's Conor Dwyer, who just appeared on the Morning Swim Show, nearly tracked down the American record in the men's 200-yard free with a leadoff time of 1:31.73 en route to a Gator victory in the men's 800 free relay with a 6:13.74. David Walters still holds the American record in the 200 free with a 1:31.72 as Texas' leadoff from the 2009 NCAA Championships in College Station.
