Georgia Sweeps Michigan

ATHENS, Georgia, November 4. THE Georgia swimming and diving teams swept Michigan on Saturday at Gabrielsen Natatorium, with the Bulldogs winning 190.5-172.5 and the Lady Bulldogs winning 191-162.

"What a great meet for the kids," Georgia head coach Jack Bauerle said. "That's two great wins, and it definitely wasn't easy. Our kids know how to fight. It was a great team performance on both sides."

The Georgia women's 200 medley relay team of Aleksandra Putra, Kelly McNichols, Anne-Marie Botek and Kara Lynn Joyce stopped the clock first with a time of 1:42.91. Other winners for the Lady Bulldogs on Saturday were Joyce in the 50 freestyle, Putra in the 100 backstroke and Mhyria Miller in the 100 breaststroke.

For the Bulldogs, Webb Worthington swept the 1- and 3-meter diving events, posting scores of 329.92 and 356.02, respectively. Sebastien Rouault was a double winner touching the wall first in both the 1,650 freestyle and the 200 free, with times of 15:22.28 and 1:38.54. Gil Stovall took the 100 butterfly (49.24) and the 100 backstroke (49.75).

The men's 200 medley relay team of Stovall, Michael Cellini, Nathan Bibliowicz and Joe Smutz finished first with a time of 1:31.01. Cameron Hollinger stopped the clock in 20.54 to win the 50 free. The Bulldogs clinched the meet with the first-place effort of the 400 free relay team of Hollinger, Bibliowicz, Andrew Taylor and Smutz. Their time was 3:00.89.

"I was really proud of our divers today," Georgia diving coach Dan Laak said. "To finish first (Worthington) and second (Genya Gouzeev) in both is a great accomplishment, and those were critical points to the meet."
