Georgia Sweeps Florida State, Vanderbilt (Women) as Jack Bauerle Honored

After defeating Auburn last week, the Georgia Bulldogs returned home and took care of business against Florida State’s women and men plus the Vanderbilt women, but before racing got started, Georgia honored longtime head coach Jack Bauerle by dedicating the team’s facility as “Bauerle Pool at Gabrielsen Natatorium.” On the women’s side, Stefanie Williams Moreno’s team won 180-117 over Florida State and 219-61 over Vanderbilt, with the Seminoles also taking down Vandy (230-61). Neil Versfeld’s men’s team won 193-107 over FSU.

Abby McCulloh, Ebonia McCarty and Zoie Hartman were all double winners for the Georgia women. McCulloh swam times of 9:30.61 in the 1000 freestyle and 4:39.58 in the 500 free while McCarty topped the 50 free (22.63) and 100 backstroke (51.57). Hartman got the better of the field in both breaststroke events, the 100 (59.18) and 200 (2:09.14). In diving, Meghan Wenzel won on 3-meter (331.95) and 1-meter (305.10).

Sloan Reinstein topped the 200 free in 1:45.25, holding off fast-finishing teammates Dune Coetzee (1:45.37) and Hartman (1:45.45). Helena Jones was the winner in the 100 free in 48.43, with Millie Sansome following up with a 200 back triumph (1:56.40). Mia Abruzzo won the 400 IM in 4:17.34, and the team of Jones, McCarty, Bri Roberson and Reinstein comfortably won the 400 free relay in 3:16.24.

Florida State’s women scored a 200 medley relay win in 1:37.16 behind Sarah EvansMaddy HugginsJenny Halden and Gloria Muzito. Later, Edith Jernstedt finished first in the 200 butterfly (1:56.45), and she later won the 100 fly as well (53.50), with Halden coming in just two hundredths behind and Sophie Freeman completing the 1-2-3 sweep.

For the men, Jake Magahey continued tallying up wins in his senior season. Against Florida State, Magahey pulled away from teammate Bradley Dunham for the win in the 1000 free (8:53.52), and he cruised in the 200 fly (1:41.81). Later on in the 400 IM, the Bulldogs’ Ian Grum pulled ahead of Magahey on breaststroke and held on during the freestyle leg to win by 16-hundredths, 3:42.60 to 3:42.76. The medley was Grum’s second win of the day, as he had already dominated the 200 back with a time of 1:40.02.

Tomas Koski grabbed the win in the 200 free in 1:33.34, and Ruard Van Renen came in ahead in the 100 back (46.56). Dillon Downing finished first by five hundredths over teammate Miles Simon in the 50 free, 19.59 to 19.64. Dunham cruised in the 500 free with a time of 4:17.80. Dunham, Steven InsixiengmayWesley Ng and Downing finished first in the 200 medley relay in 1:25.10, and to conclude the meet, Dunham, Reese BranzellZach Hils and Downing went 2:51.25 for a 400 free relay win.

The Seminoles’ Tommaso Baravelli finished first in the 100 breast (53.71) and 200 breast (1:56.10), and Peter Varjasi secured the win in the 100 free (42.42). Mason Herbet was the 100 fly winner (47.69). In diving, Darwin Nolasco won on 1-meter (357.38), and David Vargas Garcia took first on 3-meter (363.15).
