George Washington University Adds Moriah Freitas, Julia Knox to Class of 2025

NEW COMMITS: Orland, Fla. native Moriah Freitas and Julia Knox of Banbridge, Ireland have both pledged their verbal commitments to George Washington University beginning in the fall of 2021.

Both talented swimmers will suit up for the Colonials along with Taylor Bernosky and Ava Deangelis as a member of the class of 2025.

Regarding her commitment, she said:

“I am happy to announce my commitment to George Washington University! I’m so thankful for my mom and coaches who helped me become a great swimmer and person. George Washington has such an amazing program with a very positive team atmosphere. I am looking forward to continuing my academic and athletic career at George Washington and I can’t wait to be a Colonial for the next four years!”

Primarily a butterflyer, Freitas does her club swimming with Highlander Aquatic Club and finished 16th in the 200 fly at Juniors East in December while taking 11th in the 200m fly at Greensboro Futures last summer. A current senior at Winter Park High School, she is a three-time Florida 4A State Championship finalist, taking sixth in the 200 free and seventh in the 100 fly during her junior season.

Her best times include:

  • 50 fly – 25.63
  • 100 fly – 55.32
  • 200 fly – 2:02.29
  • 100 free – 53.21
  • 200 free – 1:50.33

JULIA KNOX

She told Swimming World:

“I am thrilled to announce my verbal commitment to swim and study at George Washington University.  I would like to thanks Banbridge ASC and Strength Farm for the ongoing support, I can’t wait to join the team.”

Knox trains year-round with Banbridge ASC and most recently competed at the McCullagh International Meet where she finished sixth in the 200m IM, 11th in the 50m breast, and 12th in the 100m breast. She earned the bronze medal in the 200m free at the Irish SCM Championships in December and won the 100m breast and 200m IM at Irish Summer Nationals. She also competed at the LEN European Junior Championships in 2018.

Her best times include (SCY/LCM conversions):

  • 50m breast – 34.35/30.12
  • 100m breast – 1:13.18/1:04.39
  • 200m breast – 2:34.91/2:17.56
  • 200m IM – 2:18.62/2:01.56
