Geordie Enoch Wins Two in Final Day of Shortened Ithaca Sectionals

On the second and final day of the shortened Speedo Super Sectionals held in Ithaca, NY, fast swims continued, despite few competitors in some events.

Morgan Scott won the first event of the midafternoon finals session. The Central Bucks’ swimmer took the 200 freestyle title in a time of 2:04.75. Lindsay Stone of Pack Swim Team of Pittsford raced to second in a time of 2:06.81. Lauren McGrath, representing Allegheny North, finished third with a 2:09.46.

Central Bucks Swim Team also claimed the men’s event with Joseph Vizza stopping the clock at 1:54.96. Eben Krigger from Allegheny North finished second in a 1:56.27, while Laurel E. Hartford YMCA’s Patrick Savidge was just behind him in a 1:56.70.

Kristien Murslack, swimming unattached, won the women’s 100 butterfly in a 1:02.94. Central Bucks’ Allie Szekely claimed second in a 1:03.25 while Eva Crouse, also unattached, raced to a third place time of 1:03.46.

Adding to his two wins yesterday, unattached swimmer Zachary Buerger won the men’s 100 butterfly by over a second, finishing in 55.37 seconds. Douglas Kogut from the Eagle Swim Team Inc. grabbed second place with a time of 56.48. Central Bucks’ Greg Brocato rounded out the top three in a 57.35.

Despite being the only swimmer in the 400 IM, Eagle Swim Team Inc.’s Geordie Enoch nearly matched her seed time. She won the event with a 4:58.75.

The men’s 400 IM featured only four swimmers, all representing Eastern Express Swim Team. Connor Doyle won the event in a time of 4:43.40. His teammate John Stauffer was second in a 4:48.27 and Jimmy Keane finished third in a 5:04.23.

In the men’s 400 Freestlye relay, the Eastern Express men’s B team beat their A squad. The two relays finished in 3:48.57 and 3:53.33 respectively.

In her second top three performance of the finals session Szekely dominated the 200 Backstroke, winning in a time of 2:16.45. There was a close race for second place, which Katherine Bennett of Camillus Swim Club claimed in a 2:21.31. Jacquelyn Du from Allegheny North finished third in a 2:21.47.

Eagle Swim Team Inc.’s Douglas Kogut raced his way to the top of the men’s 200 Backstroke podium, posting a time of 2:09.66. Savidge earned his second top three finish of the day with a time of 2:10.59 while Ridgefield Aquatic Club’s Kevin Santoro was third in a 2:11.93.

The top three women’s sprinters all posted 26 second times in the 50 Freestyle. Central Buck’s Hannah Zurmuhl won the event with a 26.24. Mary Kathryn Smith from Pack Swim Team of Pittsford finished second with a 26.58. Zurmuhl’s teammate Scott was third in a 26.92, her second top three finish of the session.

The top three men’s 50 Freestylers were the only three to break through the 24 second barrier. Samuel Davis from Eagle Swim Team Inc. won the event in a 23.64. He was followed by Cyc Rally Aquatic Club’s Edward Zawatski in a 23.85. Buerger finished third in a 23.96.

Enoch had competition for her second win of the night. She captured the 200 Breaststroke title in a time of 2:41.96. Eva Crouse, swimming unattached, finished eight one hundreths behind in a 2:42.04. Kristen Vargas, also unattached, was third with a 2:43.18.

After a tight women’s race, Andrew Bornstein from Ridgefield Aquatic Club won the men’s 200 Breatroke by over three seconds, racing to a time of 2:24.61. Portland Porpoise Swim Club’s Eric Delmonte was second with a 2:27.64. Laurel E. Hartford YMCA’s Christopher Curtin finished third in a time of 2:28.55.

The Lansing Cats won the men’s 400 Medley Relay in a time of 4:22.83. The Eastern Express Swim Team’s B relay finished second in a time of 4:27.27 while their A relay rounded out the field in a time of 4:33.54.

At the conclusion of the condensed two day sectional meet, the Allegheny North Swim Club women finished in first with 359 points. The Central Bucks Swim Team earned 297 points for second place while the Pack Swim Team of Pittsford was third with 224 points.

For the men, Eastern Express Swim Team dominated with 510 points. The Central Bucks Swim Team replicated their female teammates’ second place finish with 319 points. The Allegheny North Swim Club men also earned a top three finish with their 180 points.
