Swimming World sat down with Dr. Genadijus Sokolovas of Global Sport Technology, Inc. at the 2019 ASCA World Clinic in Dallas, Texas earlier this month. Sokolovas was the director for sport science and physiology for almost ten years at USA Swimming and is now the founder of Global Sport Technology. Sokolovas was providing resources to swim teams in the Bahamas and was working as a FINA Expert running coaches certification courses around the world including the Bahamas.

FINA scheduled the course in the Bahamas six months ago. With Hurricane Dorian impending, Sokolovas had to shorten the course that about 30 coaches attended in the Bahamas and he was able to leave the island on the last plane before the Nassau airport shut down.

The Bahamas was notably hit the hardest by Hurricane Dorian, with over 1,000 deaths on the island itself. Sokolovas assured none of the coaches in the clinic died in the tragedy but houses and pool facilities were destroyed.
