Gabriella Fagundez Collects Second Swedish Freestyle National Record on Final Night of Swedish National Championships

HALMSTAD, Sweden, July 29. SWEDEN's Gabriella Fagundez collected her second national record and third individual title during the final night of long course meter swimming at the Swedish National Championships held in Halmstad.

Fagundez obliterated the field in the women's 400 free to cap individual swimming at the meet when she clocked a 4:11.02. That performance chopped more than a second off the previous record of 4:12.67 set by Malin Nilsson way back on Aug. 5, 1993. The time also moved Fagundez into 21st in the world this year behind Yang Fang and Lotte Friis' matching 4:11.00s.

The record completed an incredible meet for Fagundez as she already set the Swedish record in the 1500 free with a time of 16:39.98, while also taking home the 800 free in 8:41.91.

In other action, Eva Berglund won the women's 400 IM in 4:51.11 over 200 IM winner Sara Thyden's 4:53.78. Simon Sjodin then captured the men's 200 fly in 2:02.08 after watching Lars Frolander win both the 50 and 100 in the stroke.

Joline Haglund added the 100 breast to her 200 crown when she clocked a 1:10.16 to beat Hanna Eriksson's 1:11.22.

Johan Claar earned the title "Swedish King of Distance" when he swept the longer freestyle events with a time of 8:24.62 in the 800 free. He'd already earned the 1500 title earlier in the meet with a readout of 16:07.62.

In the closest race of the night, Petra Granlund doubled up her 200 butterfly title with a 100 fly win in 1:00.51. She had to beat Swedish record holder Anna-Karin Kammerling by the slimmest of margins as Kammerling finished second in 1:00.52.

Konstantin Sundin also claimed his second title of the meet when he won the 100 back in 58.64 over Jens Petersson's 59.00. Earlier, Sundin won the 200 back in 2:07.32.

Carin Moller put a 200 back trophy next to her 100 back title when she dominated the field in the shorter distance with a time of 2:18.72, while Jonas Andersson accomplished a breaststroke sweep with a 100-meter time of 1:02.72. He already had the 50 (28.51) and 200 (2:17.27) in his pocket from earlier performances.

Josefin Lillhage, in another meet-double, claimed the 100 freestyle title in 55.43. She added the win to her 200 free (1:58.59) from earlier in the event.

Stefan Nystrand broke through with his first title of the meet in the men's 50 free. He touched in 22.09, just short of his national record time of 21.97, while 100 free winner Petter Stymne placed second in 22.75.
