Gabriele Detti, Martina Carraro Move to 2nd in World in Respective Events in Milan

Gabriele Detti raced his way to second in the world in the men’s 400-meter free at the 2016 City of Milan Trophy meet.  The event was a two-day timed final long course competition.

Detti posted a 3:46.59 to move to second in the world behind only David McKeon’s 3:46.48 from the NSW Championships.

Dimitrios Dimitriou touched second overall in 3:50.81, while Gregorio Paltrinieri took third in 3:51.20 after moving to the top of the world in the 1500 free yesterday.

Martina Carraro also claimed a runner-up world ranking with a 30.79 in the women’s 50-meter breast.  Only Ruta Meilutyte is faster with a 30.40 split from the Edinburgh International meet.  Lisa Angiolini (31.92) and Ilaria Scarcella (32.02) rounded out the top three today.

Carraro also jumped up to seventh in the world in the women’s 100-meter breast with a 1:07.31.  Ilaria Scarcella finished second in 1:08.82 with Elisa Celli claiming third in 1:09.76.

Piero Codia moved up to fifth in the world in the men’s 100-meter fly with a 52.37.  Matteo Rivolta finished second in 52.80, while Daniele D’Angelo placed third in 53.83. Codia also improved to seventh in the world in the men’s 50-meter fly with a 23.73.  Rivolta (24.38) and Francesco Giordano (24.53) closed out the podium.

Luca Dotto improved to ninth in the world in the men’s 100-meter free with a 48.77.  Filippo Magnini (49.37) and Marco Orsi (49.75) cleared 50-seconds for second and third.

Fabio Scozzoli won the men’s 100-meter breast in 1:01.48 with Ioannis Karpouzlis taking second in 1:02.10. Luca Pizzini wound up third in 1:02.25. Scozzoli doubled up with a 27.82 in the men’s 50-meter breast to move to 11th in the world.  Andrea Toniato (27.94) and Ioannis Karpouzlis (28.26) placed second and third.

Simone Sabbioni captured the men’s 50-meter back in 25.68 with Niccolo Bonacchi tying Michail Kontizas for second with 25.80s. Sabbioni doubled up with a 55.15 in the men’s 100-meter back.  Christopher Ciccarese (55.70) and Niccolo Bonacchi (55.97) claimed second and third.

Federica Pellegrini claimed the women’s 100-meter free in 54.34.  Erika Ferraioli touched second in 54.82 with Aglaia Pezzato picking up third in 55.85.

Silvia Scalia snared the women’s 50-meter back crown in 28.45, while Arianna Barbieri took second in 28.68.  Carlotta Zofkova picked up third in 29.27.

Zofkova then won the women’s 100-meter back in 1:01.42 with Margherita Panziera placing second in 1:01.67.  Arianna Barbieri finished third in 1:01.82.

Ilaria Bianchi turned in a 58.65 to win the women’s 100-meter fly.  Silvia Di Pietro placed second in 58.84 with Aurora Petronio taking third in 1:00.99.

Di Pietro later won the women’s 50-meter fly in 26.64.  Bianchi took second in 27.40 with Elena Di Liddo finishing third in 27.73.

Alice Mizzau won the women’s 400-meter free in 4:10.09.  Erica Musso (4:10.56) and Martina De Memme (4:11.26) finished second and third.

Federico Turrini topped the men’s 400-meter IM in 4:21.18 with Lorenzo Tarocchi taking second in 4:24.94.  Giorgio Gaetani took third in 4:27.63.

Stefania Pirozzi picked up the women’s 400-meter IM title in 4:40.27.  Luisa Trombetti (4:45.39) and Alessia Polieri (4:47.95) touched second and third.
