Gábor Zombori Wins Gruelling Back-To-Back Double At Hungarian Championships
Gábor Zombori executed a gruelling 200 breaststroke-400IM double in the space of 40 minutes as he continued his golden run at the Hungarian Championships in Kaposvár.
The 24-year-old posted 2:08.24 for the 200 breaststroke before returning for the 400IM, where he took top honours in 4:06.52 as he clinched the medley double.
It saw Zombori – who won 400IM bronze at the 2024 Europeans weeks before the Paris Olympics – extend his golden run to four with the IM double, 200 breast and 400 free.
Panna Ugrai also continued her golden streak as she collected top honours in the 200 free (1:54.79) and 50 fly (26.36) on top of leading off the BVSC-Zugló 4×100 free quartet to victory. It brings to 10 the number of gold medals across three days for the quadruple European medallist.
Nándor Németh added the 200 free title to his 100 gold in 1:44.01 as Szebasztián Szabó won the 50 fly in 22.59 as well as winning gold with the BVSC-Zugló 4×100 free squad
Vivien Jackl has been struggling with a stubborn hip problem since February but overcame any ill-effects to dominate the 400IM in 4:34.09, 7.7secs ahead of her nearest challenger. Eszter Békési had to push hard to win the 200 breast in 2:25.23.
