FSU’s Michael Averett Earns ACC Swimmer of the Week Honors

The freshman won two individual events and a relay to lead the Seminoles to a victory Saturday.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Florida State freshman swimmer Michael Averett became the first Seminole this season to earn ACC Swimmer of the Week honors, as announced by the league office Monday evening. Averett, from Davie, Fla., earned three first-place finishes (two individual, one
relay) in a win over UNC Wilmington this past Saturday. Averett's first win came in the 100-meter freestyle (55.11) then later in the 100-meter butterfly (58.87). In addition, he swam the butterfly leg of the winning 400-meter medley relay team (4:04.17).

"It's a good honor for Michael, there's not too many freshmen who win this award," said head coach Neil Harper. "We're excited for him and hope this is a sign of things to come as we head towards the conference meet."

FSU will host Florida Atlantic this Saturday, January 12, at noon at the Bobby E. Leach Aquatic Center on the Florida State campus.
