Four Universities Represented in CAA Weekly Awards

RICHMOND, Va. – For the first time this season, the CAA’s weekly swimming and diving awards went to four student-athletes from four different schools. William & Mary sophomore Chris Balbo become the Tribe’s second straight Men’s Swimmer of the Week honoree, Drexel sophomore Anthony Musciano earned his first weekly award of the season as the Men’s Diver of the Week, James Madison sophomore Bonnie Zhang picked up the Dukes’ second consecutive Women’s Swimmer of the Week nod, and UNCW junior Adyson Lowe rounded out the honors with her second Women’s Diver of the Week award this year.

MEN’S SWIMMER OF THE WEEK: Chris Balbo • William & Mary

The Tribe’s third different men’s swimmer to pick up a weekly award this season, Balbo swam in two events over the weekend as William & Mary earned a pair of wins at the CAA Pod Meet, defeating UNCW and Delaware in Wilmington. The sophomore, who previously set the fastest time in the conference this year for the 400 IM (4:00.02) on Oct. 14, placed second in the same event with a time of 4:00.62. He also recorded a first-place time of 1:50.74 in the 200-yard butterfly, breaking his own personal best for a dual-meet in the event.

MEN’S DIVER OF THE WEEK: Anthony Musciano • Drexel

The defending CAA Men’s Diver and Men’s Rookie Diver of the Year helped the Dragons win the Thomas Murphy Invitational, hosted by Loyola (Md.), over the weekend defeating Johns Hopkins, West Chester and the host Greyhounds. Musciano won the 1-meter board with a score of 269.25, and finished second on the 3-meter (242.45).

WOMEN’S SWIMMER OF THE WEEK: Bonnie Zhang • James Madison

Zhang played an important role for the Dukes in their sweep of conference opponents UNCW, Delaware, and William & Mary at the CAA Pod Meet hosted by the Seahawks this past weekend, winning two individual events and swimming a leg on JMU’s winning 400 medley relay and 400 free relay teams. The sophomore captured the 100 back in 57.02 and clocked a solid time of 51.36 to win the 100 free – a new CAA-best for the event this season. She anchored the Dukes’ first place 400 medley relay squad (3:51.51) and also swam the lead leg on her team’s winning 400 free relay team that touched the wall first in 3:27.88. Zhang is the second straight JMU athlete to win the weekly swimming honor.

WOMEN’S DIVER OF THE WEEK: Adyson Lowe • UNCW
Junior
 | Huntersville, N.C.

Lowe wins her second weekly diving award of the 2017-18 season and first since Oct. 18. The sophomore impressed at the CAA Pod Meet, sweeping both diving boards against Delaware and JMU. She scored 249.40 to win the 1-meter and 265.35 to capture the top spot on the 3-meter.
