Rio Olympic 100m butterfly champion Sarah Sjostrom has got engaged to partner Johan de Jong Skierus.

The 28-year-old, who became the first Swedish woman to win an Olympic swimming title with gold in 2016, posted an image to social media of De Jong Skierus proposing while down on one knee in the snow.

It read:

“First I said get up you’ll get cold…And then I said YES @skierus ???

“Photocred to @naprapatjonas (he was filming for his vlog and had no idea that johan was about to propose, I think he was even more surprised then me??)”

Federica Pellegrini responded saying “OMG ?♥️????” with Natalie Coughlin, Siobhan Haughey, Rikako Ikee and Jazz Carlin also congratulating the couple.

It has been quite the 12 months for the eight-time world champion whose Olympics were under threat after she broke her elbow on a fall on ice in early February which required subsequent surgery.

However, not only did she participate in Tokyo but Sjostrom won silver in the 50 free to add to the three medals she won in Rio.
