Four Meet Records Fall At Indianapolis Sectionals

INDIANAPOLIS, Indiana, March 28. FOUR meet records fell as the Speedo Indianapolis Sectionals got underway.

Carmel Swim Club came close to a National Age Group record in the women’s 400m free relay, with the team of Veronica Burchill, Kendall Smith, Claire Adams, and Amy Bilquist posting a 3:48.28 for a new meet record. Fishers Area Swimming Tigers (Abbegayle Schneider, Emily Moser, Summer Brown, Lauryn Parrish) took second with a 3:54.91. Carmel’s B-relay (Emma Nordin, Hanna House, Morgan Grout, Taite Kitchel) claimed third with a 3:56.04.

Fourteen-year old Erin Earley from Hopkins Mariner Swim Team crushed the meet record in the 200m back, putting up a personal best 2:10.95. Carmel Swim Club’s Amy Bilquist clocked in at 2:15.45 for second. Shelby Carroll of Indiana University took third with a personal best time of 2:15.91.

Brock Turner of the Dayton Raiders, who will swim at Stanford in the fall, also set a meet record in the 200m back with a personal best time of 2:01.08. Firestone Akron Swim Team’s Michael Reilman posted a personal best 2:03.55 for second. Turner’s teammate Henrik Pohlmann, a Virginia recruit, went 2:05.91 for third.

Amy Bilquist set a meet record in the women’s 50m free with a winning time and new personal best of 25.65. Alex Cleveland of Zionsville Swim Club, a future Tennessee Volunteer, put up a personal best 26.05 for second. Lauren Heller of the Lake Erie Silver Dolphins touched in a personal best 26.34 for third.

Fourteen-year old Melissa Pish of Waves Bloomington Swim Team posted a personal best 8:51.32 to win the 800m freestyle. Emily Meckstroth, swimming unattached, clocked in at a personal best 8:58.29 for second. Erin Earley touched third with a personal best 8:58.48.

Pish won the 200 free as well, clocking in at 2:02.07 for first and a new personal best. Lauren Heller claimed second with a personal best 2:02.46. Lauryn Parrish of Fishers Area Swimming Tigers touched third in a personal best 2:04.25.

Brock Turner won his second event of the meet in the men’s 400 IM, posting a 4:25.28. Cooper Hodge of Cincinnati Aquatic Club clocked in at 4:31.74 for second and a new personal best. Hudson Bursch, swimming unattached, touched in a personal best 4:33.18 for third.

Daniel Kanorr of Counsilman Center Swim Team won the men’s 50m free with a personal best 23.12. Yianni Thermos of Indiana University took second with a personal best 23.68. His teammate Samuel Lorentz touched third in a personal best time of 23.73.

Grayson Smith of Indiana University won the 1500m free in a personal best 16:09.87. Ben Vanderweide of Grand Rapids Novi Sad Aquatics put up a personal best 16:26.79 for second. John Pearson of Berkeley Aquatic Club clocked in at 16:29.24 for third and a personal best.

Lillia King of the Newburgh Sea Creatures posted a personal best 2:33.84 to win the women’s 200m breast. Lauren Edelman of Fishers Area Swimming Tigers clocked in at 2:34.38 for second and a new personal best. Miranda Tucker of Livonia Community Swim Club took third with a 2:35.27.

Blaine Nichols of Indiana University won the men’s 200m breast by a hair with a 2:18.77, just edging out Cooper Hodge, who went a personal best 2:18.78. Thomas Cope of Dayton Raiders claimed third with a 2:21.29.

Fishers Area Swimming Tigers’ women (Abbegayle Schneider, Emily Moser, Lauryn Parrish, Summer Brown) won the women’s 800m free relay with a 9:23.29. Carmel Swim Club (Veronica Burchill, Kendall Smith, Claire Adams, Amy Bilquist) took second with a 8:26.06. Waves Bloomington Swim Team (Melissa Pish, Mckenzee Gordon, Sidney Kennedy, Grac e Ariola) placed third with a time of 8:32.21.

Donald Hurley of Indiana University won the men’s 200m free with a personal best 1:51.71. Campos Alipzar of Jalisco touched second with a 1:51.88. Thomas Cope took third with a personal best 1:53.64.

Madison Wright of Kingfish Aquatic Club of Waterford won the women’s 100m fly in a personal best 1:00.77. Miranda Tucker took second with a personal best 1:01.32. Veronica Burchill of Carmel Swim Club touched third in a personal best 1:01.44.

Tanner Kurz of Indiana University won the men’s 100m fly with a personal best 55.47. Jack Walsh of Plymouth-Canton Cruisers posted a personal best 55.78 for second. Indiana’s Joseph Powell touched third in a personal best 55.89.

Lauren Edelman won the women’s 400m IM with a 4:52.70. Erin Earley clocked in at a personal best 4:53.65 for second. Abbegayle Schneider of Fishers Area Swimming Tigers took third with a personal best 4:55.21.

Indiana University (Donald Hurley, Yianni Thermos, Samuel Lorentz, Joseph Powell) closed out tonight’s finals with a win in the 400m free relay, clocking in at 3:27.81. Dayton Raiders (Thomas Cope, Jackson Higgins, Henrik Pohlmann, Brock Turner) put up a 3:30.01 for second. Indiana’s B-team (Tanner Kurz, Bradley Stamper, John Winck, Kyle Johnson) finished third with a time of 3:31.88.
