Florida’s Elizabeth Beisel Scares NCAA, American Record in 400 IM

KNOXVILLE, Tennessee, February 17. FLORIDA's Elizabeth Beisel posted the first sub-4:00 SEC time at the Allan Jones Aquatic Center during the Southeastern Conference Championships held in Knoxville, Tenn.

Beisel blistered the pool with a sterling time of 3:58.35 in the distance medley, just missing Julia Smit's NCAA, American and U.S. Open record of 3:58.23 set back in 2010. The effort puts Beisel second in the all-time ranks, now ahead of Katinka Hosszu's 3:58.86 to become just the third swimmer under 4:00 in the event's history.

Beisel set her personal best in the event with a conference record of 4:00.83 in last year's conference meet, but obliterated that time this evening.
