Florida State Swimming, Diving Snags Three ACC Weekly Honors

Three members of the Florida State swimming and diving teams captured ACC weekly honors following the split against on Saturday against NR/22 Duke.

Senior Ayla Bonniwell and junior Joshua Davidson were named the ACC Divers of the Week, while senior Vladimir Stefanik captured the first ACC Male Swimmer of the Week honor of his career.

A team captain, Stefanik brought home two of FSU’s three wins in the final four events in order to lead the 17th-ranked Noles to victory over the Blue Devils, 153-147.

The Varin, Slovakia native, led a 1-2 finish in the 100 fly with a time of 48.42, which is the 11th fastest time in the nation this season. Minutes later, Stefanik anchored the 400 free relay with a split of 43.77, in a winner take all situation. The time of 2:57.48 is the top time in the country.

Earlier in the meet, Stefanik won the 200 free with a time of 1:37.95 for Florida State swimming.

“I’m really excited for Vlad,” FSU head coach Neal Studd said. “He has been awesome this fall, working hard and being a leader for this team. He came through for us big time this weekend.”

Davidson earned his fourth-career ACC Male Diver of the Week honor after winning both 1-meter and 3-meter against the Blue Devils.

The Tomball, Texas native led the way for a dominant FSU 1-2 finish on 3-meter with a score of 357.60.  Later in the meet, when the Seminoles needed it most, Davidson captured first place points by a margin of 2.92, for a total of 328.80, giving the Noles the lead heading into the final two swimming events.

Bonniwell (Ithaca, N.Y.) turned in a first place finish on 3-meter with a total of 308.85 after finishing second on 1-meter at 301.12. This is her fourth time earning the honor in her career.

“These guys are doing great,” FSU head diving coach John Proctor said. “They’re working hard and moving in the right direction. I’m proud of them.”

The No. 17/24 Florida State swimming (M 1-1, 1-1 ACC; W 0-2, 0-2 ACC) will host RV/18 Minnesota (M 0-1,W 0-1) on Saturday at the Morcom Aquatics Center at 10 a.m.
