Florian Wellbrock Dominates To Win 1500 Free In 14:53 At Magdeburg Swim Meet
World champion Florian Wellbrock had a good hitout at the Magdeburg Swim Meet on Saturday with a dominant victory in the 1500 free on his return to racing.
Wellbrock – who became the first man to win the 1500 free and 10k at the same world titles last year in Gwangju – dominated the race in 14:53.62, almost a minute ahead of his rivals.
That followed the German’s impressive effort in the 400 free heats where he was the only man inside 3:50, stopping the clock at 3:46.99 although he did not contest the final.

Isabel Gose set a new personal best in the 400 free of 4:06.38, lowering her previous top time of 4:07.96 en-route to the European junior title last year.
The 18-year-old had qualified fastest and split 59.49/1:02.98/1:02.79/1:01.12 in the final to set a German age group record.
Franziska Hentke, the 2017 world silver medallist, went 2:10.64 in the women’s 200 fly while Sarah Kohler, second in Gwangju, won the women’s 1500 free in 16:03.09.
