Flashback: Michael Andrew as a 10-Year-Old in Swimming World Magazine

Currently, Michael Andrew is in the Budapest Bubble, taking part in the second season of the International Swimming League. Racing for the New York Breakers, of which his mother, Tina, is the General Manager, Andrew is a multi-event standout for his squad, his versatility allowing him to be moved around from meet to meet.

Known for his record-breaking exploits at the age-group level, Andrew is now chasing a berth to next year’s Olympic Games in Tokyo, the 50 freestyle probably his best opportunity to represent Team USA. At the 2018 Pan Pacific Championships, Andrew was the gold medalist in the 50 free. Andrew is also a contender to compete in Tokyo in the 100 breaststroke and 200 individual medley, but he will have some decisions to make pertaining to his schedule, and guaranteeing he does not struggle due to an overly heavy workload.

As Andrew pursues an Olympic bid, Swimming World brings you this piece on Andrew that appeared in the April 2010 issue and celebrated the 10-year-old’s performances. Andrew is one of numerous age-group stars to appear in the pages of Swimming World at a young age, only to make their mark in international waters years later.
