Five-Star Matt Thompson Makes College Decision

DALLAS, Texas, November 11. SWIMMING World five-star prospect Matt Thompson picked his collegiate destination this weekend.

Thompson, who swims for the Dallas Mustangs and attends Jesuit College Prep, will be calling Stanford home the next four years.

Thompson is an immediate impact player as his best time of 1:42.99 in the 200-yard back would have earned consolation heat points at the NCAA Division I Championships this year. He also owns U.S. Olympic Trials cuts in the 100-meter back (55.57), 200-meter back (1:59.92), 200-meter IM (2:04.65) and 400-meter IM (4:26.41). Additionally, Thompson already would have cleared this year's NCAA Division I B cut in the 100-yard back (47.71), 200-yard IM (1:46.95) and 400-yard IM (3:50.24) along with the aforementioned 200-yard back time.

"For me, it came down to Arizona and Stanford," Thompson told Swimming World. "It was one of the hardest decisions of my life but in the end, I just had that feeling that it was the place for me when I stepped on campus at Stanford. To me, Stanford has the all-around package, great team, great coaches, great academics and great campus. So far, the class that has committed to Stanford is shaping up to be a great one and I'm so excited to be a Cardinal next year."

So far, Thompson is correct as he joins five-star recruits Payne Montgomery and Andrew Saeta as well as three-star Aaron Wayne as new members of the Cardinal.

Thompson was previously featured in the Swimming World College Recruit Rankings Profile series, and has appeared on The Morning Swim Show.
