FINA World Cup: Linn Breaks American Record, Thompson Breaks Another World Record

COLLEGE STATION, TX – USA’s Jeremy Linn defeated Belgian Fred deBurghgraeve in the 100m breaststroke to set his second American record in as many days. Linn’s time of 59.45 was .04 faster than deBurghgraeve.

Jenny Thompson broke the world record in the 50m butterfly with a time of 26.05, eclipsing her record of 26.48 set Nov. 29, 1997. She also swam a time of 53.58 in the prelims of the 100 free today, but did not swim in the finals. Instead, she went back to Mills College in Oakland, CA to continue her pre-med studies.

Lenny Krayzelburg pulled a muscle in his lower back during the start of the 50 free today and was forced to pull out of the World Cup.
