Femke Heemskerk Shines at Amsterdam Swim Cup

AMSTERDAM – Femke Heemskerk had an outstanding weekend at the Amsterdam Cup with a pair of top-five winning performances in the long course competition.

Heemskerk scorched the women’s 200 free with a 1:55.35 for the win.  That put her third in the world behind Sarah Sjostrom (1:55.04) and Katie Ledecky (1:55.16).

Heemskerk doubled up with a swift time of 53.19 in the women’s 100 free.  That vaulted her to fourth in the world behind Cate Campbell (52.62), Sjostrom (52.67) and Bronte Campbell (52.86).

Ranomi Kromowidjojo vaulted to fifth in the world in the women’s 50 free with a 24.33 to win the splash-and-dash here in Amsterdam.

Moniek Nijhuis, who already stands third in the world in the short course 50 this year, topped the women’s 50 breast in 30.73.

Nijhuis returned for the win in the women’s 100 breast with a 1:07.65.

Inge Dekker, already fifth in the world in the 100 fly with a 57.32, took the title here in Amsterdam with a 57.56. Dekker clinched her second victory with a 25.73 in the women’s 50 fly, a bit off her fourth-ranked season best of 25.50.

Rikke Moller Pedersen, the world leader with a 2:19.61 from the Eindhoven Cup, cruised to victory in the women’s 200 breast with a 2:25.08.

Ferry Weertman claimed the men’s 1500 free in 15:10.73. He then picked up the double with a 3:48.48 to win the men’s 400 free. Weertman closed out the distance free sweep with an 8:00.07 to win the men’s 800 free.

Sharon van Rouwendaal, Swimming World’s Open Water Swimmer of the Year, set the meet record in the women’s 400 free with a 4:07.42. She then doubled with a meet-record 8:33.42 in the 800 free.

Maaike de Waard set an 18-under Netherlands record with a 28.29 to win the women’s 50 backstroke title.  She returned in the women’s 100 back with a 1:01.01 for her second victory of the meet.

Christoffer Carlsen topped the men’s 50 fly in 24.09. Carlsen then doubled up with a 49.58 to win the men’s 100 free. Johannes Skagius clinched the men’s 100 breast in 1:01.26. Skagius also won the 50 breast in 27.94. Aleksandr Kudashev won the men’s 100 fly in 53.28. Kudashev then claimed the men’s 200 fly in a meet-record 1:56.84.

Victoria Kaminskaya of Portugal topped the women’s 400 IM with a time of 4:48.49, while Ana Catarina Monteiro of Portugal snared the women’s 200 fly in 2:13.72.

Wendy van den Zanden hit the wall in 2:15.60 to win the women’s 200 IM, while Sonnele Oeztuerk won the women’s 200 back in 2:11.33.

Simon Sjodin set a meet record in the men’s 200 IM with a 1:59.14 for the win. Erik Persson checked in with a meet-record 2:11.34 to win the men’s 200 breast, while Axel Pettersson won the men’s 200 back in 2:00.86.

Mattias Carlsson pocketed the men’s 100 back title in 55.51, while Jasper Mierlo walked away with the men’s 50 free crown in 22.48.

Semen Makovich topped the men’s 400 IM in 4:19.83, while Carl Louis Schwarz picked up the men’s 50 back title in 25.60, and Sebastiaan Verschuren won the men’s 200 free in 1:47.81.
