Fairfield vs. Fordham

BRONX, New York, October 28. WITH only two home meets this year, the Fordham University men's and women's swimming and diving teams have a limited number of opportunities to impress their hometown fans. Tonight, they did the job nicely as both team defeated Fairfield University in the Col. Frances B. Messmore Aquatics Center. The women won by a score of 177-99 while the men were victorious, 173-107.

Leading the way for the women was Courtney Collyer, Brienne Ryan and Kara Field, who each won two events. Collyer took first in the 200 free in a time of 1:53.86, over two seconds ahead of teammate Kellie Lyver (1:55.87), and also had the fastest 500 freestyle time on the night at 5:01.59, almost 12 seconds better than teammate Alana Biagioli (5:13.39).

Ryan was victorious in the 50 free with a 24.06 clocking and turned in the best the 100 fly time in 57.23, over three seconds ahead of teammate Frances Warren (1:00.30).

Fields was the first to the pad in the 200 breaststroke in a time of 2:29.34, almost two seconds ahead of teammate Savannah Coe (2:31.19), and also had the fastest 200 IM time with a 2:14.10 clocking, edging out teammate Kelly Bunster who turned in a 2:15.24.

The woman had seven other event winners. Alexandra Wessel won the 1000 free in a time of 10:47.75 while also placing second in 100 free (54.47); Aurelia O'Keefe was victorious in the 100 back in a time of 1:02.36, just edging teammate Tracy Karpinski (1:03.75); Kelly Bunster won the 200 fly in a time of 2:08.85, over six seconds ahead of teammate Spencer Chappell (2:15.01) while also placing second in the 200 IM (2:15.24); Ariana Peschke was victorious in the 100 free in 53.71, just ahead of teammate Alexandra Wessel (54.47); Maureen McKenna took the 200 back race in 3:13.53, ahead of Warren (2:15.90); Brittany Salas had the highest one meter diving score (212.10) and Andrea Krok took the three meter diving competition (263.10);

The women also had three competitors take second in two events: Coe (100 breaststroke – 1:10.97 and 200 breaststroke – 2:31.19), Warren (200 back – 2:15.00 and 100 fly – 1:00.30) and Elizabeth Dorger (one meter – 249.30 and three meter – 252.45).
In women's relays, the team of Peschke, Coe, Ryan and Lyver won the 200 medley relay in a time of 1:50.94 as did the team of Peschke, Lara Moseley, McKenna and Ryan in the 200 free relay (1:40.24).

On the men's side, the Rams had two double winners in the form of Zachary Jacobsen and Shintaro Noguchi. Jacobsen took the 200 free in a time of 1:48.07, ahead of teammate Nick Burbridge (1:50.39) and the 200 back in a time of 1:59.85, edging out teammate Andrew Hendrickson (2:01.97).
Noguchi won the 200 fly in a time of 1:54.74, over four seconds ahead of teammate Michael Grimmett-Norris (1:58.76), and he also had the fastest 200 IM time with a 1:55.39 clocking, well ahead of teammate Devon Morris (2:02.98).

Other events winners for the men included Andrew Hendrickson in the 100 free in a time of 9:53.97; Morris, who won the 100 back in 54.38 and placed second in 200 IM (2:02.98); Thomas Yi, who took the 100 breaststroke in 1:02.04 and was second in 500 free (4:52.93); Joseph Hines, who was victorious in the 200 breaststroke in 2:19.96 and also took second in the 100 breast (1:02.64); and Patrick Militti, who took the 500 free in 4:49.29 while also finishing second in 50 free (22.31).

On the boards, Kevin Wong placed second on both the one (187.80) and three (192.38) meter board.

In the relays, the 200 medley relay of Militti, Morris, Yi, and Chris Schneck took first in a time of 1:40.11 while the 200 free relay of Militti, Will Thomann, Andrew Hendrickson and Morris was also victorious in a time of 1:29.38.

The Fordham men's and women's swimming and diving squads will return to action on Saturday, November 12th, as they travel to Boston, Massachusetts, to take on the Boston University Terriers at 1:30 p.m.
