European Junior Championships Scheduled For Otopeni, Romania, In Early July

The European Junior Championships will be held in Otopeni, Romania, from 5-10 July 2022, governing body LEN has confirmed.

The meet will open with the diving competition which will run from 27 June-3 July is to be held at the  Otopeni Olympic Swimming Complex which opened last year.

The complex, which cost 34 million euros (around $39 million) has six pools for use by the athletes and public and 2,797 seats for spectators.

Otopeni is a small  town 15km north of the capital Bucharest, hometown of David Popovici.

Popovici won the 50-100-200 freestyle at the 2021 European junior showcase in Rome before going on to finish fourth – just 0.02 off the podium – in the 200 free and seventh in the 100 at the Olympics in Tokyo.

He is not 18 until September this year and therefore will be eligible to compete in Otopeni, the meet sandwiching the World Championships in May and the European Championships in August.
