Lincoln, Neb.- The Nebraska swimming and diving team recently announced its captains for the 2016-17 season. The team selected Erin Oeltjen and Julia Roller to be captains for the upcoming season.

Head Coach Pablo Morales was very pleased with the selection of Oeltjen and Roller as co-captains for the 2016-17 season.

“I am very happy with the selection of Julia and Erin as co-captains for our 2016-17 season.  Both have already been successful leaders–both by example and vocally–for our program.  Our staff looks forward to having them help lead Husker Swimming & Diving to even greater success in the pool, classroom and community.”

This is the second-straight year that Oeltjen has been selected as a captain by the team. Throughout her first three years as a Husker Oeltjen has racked up 48 top-five finishes, including 12 victories. At the 2016 Big Ten Championships, Oeltjen earned two top-16 finishes, notching a 15th-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly and a 16th-place finish in the 200-yard backstroke. Oeltjen also earned a spot at the 2016 Olympic Trials after qualifying in both the 100- and 200-meter backstrokes. Oeltjen has been a standout in the classroom for the Huskers. She has earned academic All-Big Ten honors in both 2015 and 2016, been named to the Nebraska Scholar Athlete Honor Roll five times and received a Nebraska Student-Athlete Hero Leadership award.

Roller has notched 31 top-five finishes over her first three seasons as a Husker.  At the 2015 Big Challenge, she tallied a trio of top-10 finishes. Roller earned a 10th-place finish in the 200-yard individual medley, a ninth-place finish in the 400-yard individual medley and a sixth-place finish in the 200-yard butterfly. Roller had an impressive 2015 Big Ten Championships as she earned a pair of top-24 finishes at the Championships. Roller’s best finish came in the 200-yard butterfly where she earned 10th-place.  A star in the classroom, Roller is a two-time academic All-Big Ten selection, a five-time member of the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll and a Big Ten Sportsmanship Award recipient.
