In her pursuit of Olympic gold, Emma McKeon has decided to train under Michael Bohl at St. Peters Western, a team full of top, young talent. According to the Herald Sun, McKeon, a specialist in freestyle and butterfly, made the decision after the selection trials last month.

Not only is McKeon leaving coach Vince Raleigh at Chandler, but she will also no longer be training with her older brother David, a star in the 200m and 400m freestyle.

This isn’t the first time McKeon has made the change in coaches; in the last year both she and David moved to Brisbane after training with their father Ron.

In response to the change, “I think she is just at that point where she is not quite sure and I guess with kids it’s probably happening a lot around Australia people if they’re going to make changes it’s probably now or just after worlds with the Olympics next year,” Michael Bohl told the Herald Sun.

Regarding her relationship with her brother, Bohl emphasized to the Herald Sun, “there is no breakdown in their relationship (with her brother) or anything sinister there, it’s just Emma is looking around to try and find a situation that best suits her.”

McKeon will be joining an increasingly talented squad. Madison Wilson and Mitch Larkin, both backstrokers, and butterflyer Madeline Groves are all possible medal contenders at Kazan later this summer.

One trouble that can arise with such a young, talented team can be the issue of sharing events. McKeon currently swims the same events as Groves, Bronte Barratt, and Brittany Elmslie. Bohl doesn’t seem worried about it, however, informing the Herald Sun, iIt’s just making sure that philosophy and attitude of everyone is on the same page and people are working together and we’re all trying to get improvement out of everyone.”

Well Magnussen switched coaches early this year and fared well at the Trials last month. Real question us: what’s Seebohm going to do?

I’ve always thought that if a good swimmer really harbors dreams of Olympic gold three places I’d go: SwimMAC (David Marsh), Sun Devil Aquatics ( Bob zBowman) or — and this would be my first choice — Trojan Swim Club
(Dave Salo). And THIS from a guy who eats, breathes and sleeps Bruin blue and gold.

( I mite have suggested Stix but unfortunately he’s only coaching at that great
Bruin water hole in the Sky!)
