Emma Barksdale Leads South Carolina To Tri Meet Win

South Carolina rounded out its regular season with wins over East Carolina University and William and Mary. The Gamecock men defeated ECU by a score of 193-105 and William and Mary 179-107. The South Carolina women beat ECU 170-129 and William and Mary 175-110.

Both Gamecock teams finished with 6-3 records.

ECU started the meet with a win in the women’s 200-yard medley relay. The team of backstroker Logan Graumann, breaststroker Megan Sellers, butterflier Bailie Monahan and freestyler Anastasia Amoiroglou won with a time of 1:43.87.

The Gamecocks took the men’s race with a time of 1:31.35. The team consisted of backstroker Jonathan Boland, breaststroker Nils Wich-Glasen, butterflier Kevin Leithold and freestyler Patrick McGrillis.

Wich-Glasen led the way for the South Carolina men. He took first in the 100 (55.77) and 200-yard breaststroke (2:00.17). Jordan Gotro also helped the Gamecocks, taking both the one and three-meter diving events.

The women were led by Emma Barksdale. She finished first in the 1000-yard freestyle (10:12.36), 200-yard breaststroke (2:17.39) and 200-yard individual medley (2:04.15).

The day ended with the men’s and women’s 400-yard freestyle relay.

In the women’s race, the top three teams were separated by less than 15-hundredths of a second. East Carolina took first with a time of 3:30.33. The team consisted of Amoiroglou, Bridie Burke, Graumann and Anna Maria Svanbergsson.

William and Mary took the men’s race. The team consisted of Will Manion, Joseph Eiden, Kyle Neri and Billy Russell. They posted a time of 3:03.67.

“We had a good day today. We had an opportunity to race two very good programs,” South Carolina head coach McGee Moody said in a press release. “All three teams competed really well, and our team came out on top, so I am proud of that.”

South Carolina is back in action at Southeastern Conference Championships on Feb. 16.
