Emily Niles, Jacob Struckmeyer Win Distance Titles In Clovis

CLOVIS, California, July 23. EMILY Niles and Jacob Struckmeyer took home the distance freestyle titles to kick off the first night of racing at the Speedo Champions Series sectional meet in Clovis.

Emily Niles of Clovis Swim Club got the meet off to an exciting start with a win in the women’s 800 free. Niles dropped 22 seconds off her seed time, moving from 10th to first with an 8:58.29. Boulder City Henderson’s Megan Purdy finished eight seconds later in 9:06.31, while Crow Canyon’s Charlotte Meier took third in 9:07.73.

California Capital Aquatics’ Jacob Struckmeyer took home the first men’s title up for grabs, dropping six seconds to win the men’s 1500 free in 16:04.30. No one finished within 21 seconds of him, as Team Rebel Aquatics’ Adam Henley touched way back in 16:26.26. Nicholas Cruse of the Marin Pirates swam a 16:27.31 to round out the top three finishers.
