Ella Eastin, Will Licon, Ryan Held Headline U.S. Team for World University Games

Highlighted by 13 members of the USA Swimming National Team, a 40-swimmer United States roster is set for next month’s World University Games, held Aug. 20-27 in Taipei City.

Among the National Teamers slated to compete is 2016 Olympic gold medalist Ryan Held (Springfield, Ill./NC State) in the 50- and 100-meter freestyle events. A complete roster can be found by clicking here.

Fellow National Team members Sean Grieshop (Austin, Texas/Nitro Swimming), Will Licon (El Paso, Texas/Longhorn Aquatics), Robert Owen (Bridgewater, Mass./Virginia Tech), PJ Ransford (Pittsford, N.Y./University of Michigan) and Andrew Wilson (Bethesda, Md./Longhorn Aquatics) join Held on the men’s roster.

Women’s National Teamers slated to swim include Andrea Cottrell (Reynoldsburg, Ohio/Cardinal Aquatics), Ali DeLoof (Grosse Point, Mich./Club Wolverine), Ella Eastin (Irvine, Calif./Stanford Swimming), Katrina Konopka (Greenville, S.C./Tucson Ford Dealers Aquatics), Hellen Moffitt (Alexandria, Va./North Carolina), Hannah Moore (Cary, N.C./NC State) and Hannah Stevens (Lexington, Ohio/University of Missouri).

Team USA assistant coaches also were finalized with Rick Bishop (Michigan), Tracy Duchac (Stanford) and Duncan Sherrard (North Carolina) joining head coach Carol Capitani (Texas) on the women’s staff.

Men’s head coach Whitney Hite (Wisconsin) will be joined by men’s assistants Braden Holloway (NC State), Jeff Poppell (Florida) and Brian Smith (Georgia).

Featuring swimmers ages 17-23 who are current college students or recent graduates, the World University Games has been a springboard to international success for numerous swimmers, including Olympic gold medalists Tyler ClaryMatt GreversCullen JonesLilly KingRebecca Soni and Dana Vollmer.
