There was plenty of fast swimming this weekend at the Edinburgh International in Scotland, but none faster than Elizabeth Simmonds’ world best in the 200-meter back.

Simmonds skyrocketed to the top of the world in the women’s 200-meter back with a sizzling time of 2:08.32.  That swim smashed the 2:08.84 set by Fu Yuanhui at the BHP Super Series.

USA’s Tom Shields vaulted to third in the world in the men’s 100-meter fly with a time of 52.15.  Only Jack Conger (51.64) and Mehdy Metella (52.13) have been faster this year.  James Guy took second in 52.86.

Jazz Carlin won the women’s 400-meter free in 4:06.79.  That swim fell short of her third-ranked season best of 4:05.55 from the Marseille stop of the Golden Tour. Hannah Miley took second in Edinburgh with a 4:13.13.

Carlin then won the women’s 200-meter free with a time of 1:58.04. Siobhan-Marie O’Connor took second in 1:58.42.

O’Connor also pushed her way to fifth in the world in the women’s 100-meter fly with a 58.15.  Only Sarah Sjostrom (56.58), Emma McKeon (57.76), Jeanette Ottesen (58.03) and Inge Dekker (58.12) have been faster.  Rachel Kelley, who had been fifth in the world with a 58.25, took second in 58.17 to now stand sixth.  Jemma Lowe placed third in Edinburgh with a 58.38 to tie Brittany Elmslie for ninth in the world.

Georgia Davies earned sixth in the world in the women’s 100-meter back with a 1:00.35 for the win.  Lizzie Simmonds took second in 1:00.44, just off her seventh-ranked 1:00.37, while Fran Halsall touched third in 1:00.77 for 11th in the world.

Fran Halsall took seventh in the world rankings in the women’s 100-meter free with a 54.24, while Natalie Coughlin placed second in 54.77.

Jemma Lowe moved to eighth in the world in the women’s 200-meter fly with a 2:09.25 for the win.

Andrew Willis downed Adam Peaty, 2:12.22 to 2:12.86, in the men’s 200-meter breast.  That put Willis tied with Peaty for eighth in the world rankings as Peaty already went that time at the Speedo Flanders Cup.

Nicholas Grainger took the men’s 400-meter free crown in 3:49.96 to move to 10th in the world.

Meanwhile, Lucy Campbell topped the women’s 800 free in 9:00.97, while Sophie Taylor picked up the women’s 100-meter breast victory in 1:07.88.

Hannah Miley took home the women’s 400-meter IM title in 4:43.20, while Olivia White touched out Molly Renshaw, 2:26.71 to 2:26.79, for the women’s 200-meter breast title.

Stephen Milne won the men’s 1500-meter free in 15:18.91, while Cameron Brodie claimed the men’s 200-meter fly in 1:58.85 with Tom Shields taking second in 1:59.18.

Craig McNally touched in 2:00.75 to win the men’s 200-meter back, while Lewis Coleman captured the men’s 200-meter IM in 2:01.93.

Ben Proud hit the wall in 49.68 to win the men’s 100-meter free, while Jonny Carlisle topped Liam Tancock, 55.95 to 56.02, in the men’s 100-meter back.
