Dutch Team Set for European Championships

AMSTERDAM, Netherlands, May 9. THE Dutch Swimming Federation and Technical Director Jacco Verhaeren have announced a squad of 22 athletes to compete at this summer’s European Championships in Budapest, Hungary. The meet is one of the international calendar’s highlight summer competitions, along with the Pan Pacific Championships.
The Dutch team will be headlined by Pieter van den Hoogenband, the multiple Olympic medalist and world-record holder in the 100 freestyle. Van den Hoogenband was forced to miss last summer’s World Championships in Montreal due to hernia surgery, but the freestyle ace will be back in action from July 31-August 6. For the women, the roster is headed by Marleen Veldhuis, among the world’s top sprinters.
