Duke swimming and diving head coach Dan Colella is pleased to announce the addition of Thomas Rathbun to his staff. Rathbun will serve as an assistant coach for the 2019-20 season.

“We are thrilled to have Thomas Rathbun joining us this season,” said Colella. “He has been here for a couple of months and has added to the ongoing endeavor we call recruiting, as well as a welcome addition on deck coaching. Thomas adds another dynamic to an already great staff.”

Rathbun spent the last year as an assistant men’s swim coach with DePauw University.

Prior to DePauw, Rathbun graduated from the University of Iowa, where he swam for four years. As a Hawkeye, Rathbun was a finalist in the Big Ten Championships and the U.S. Open. He finished his swimming career holding top-10 times in school history in three events: 800-yard freestyle relay, 200 backstroke and 500 freestyle. He holds the school record as part of the 800 freestyle relay (6:24.93).

A native of Sioux Center, Iowa, Thomas Rathbun graduated from Iowa in 2018 with a bachelor degree in environmental science.
