Rising senior Jaimee Gundry has been selected to represent South Africa at this summer’s FINA World Aquatics Championships in Kazan, Russia.

Gundry will join head diving coach Nunzio Esposto and former Blue Devil diver Abby Johnston in Kazan, as both were named to the United States’ roster for the championship last month.

Gundry previously represented her native country of South Africa at the 2012 FINA Junior World Diving Championships in Adelaide, Australia and won the women’s platform competition at the 2014 South Africa diving national championships.

She also competed at the 2013 FINA World Championships in Barcelona, Spain and at the 2014 FINA Diving World Cup in Shanghai, China, earning the highest finish of her international career with a 24th-place showing in the preliminaries of the individual 10-meter platform event.

As a junior this past season, Gundry scored for Duke with a 14th-place finish in the preliminaries of the women’s platform event at the ACC Championships. She also turned in a top-15 performance on the platform at the NCAA Zone B Diving Championships after surpassing the Zones qualification standard during the course of the regular season.

Held every two years, the World Championships for Aquatics feature international competitions in swimming, diving, open water swimming, synchronized swimming and water polo.

The diving portion of the 2015 FINA World Championships will take place July 24-Aug. 2 at the Aquatics Palace in Kazan.
