LAUSANNE, Switzerland, February 17. OVER the past few days, FINA announced a pair of doping-related rulings.
Russian Anastasiya Ivanenko tested positive for the substance Furosemide as part of a FINA Unannounced Out-of-Competition Testing Program test on Jan. 23, 2007. Ivanenko has been provisionally suspended as of Feb. 15 until a hearing before the FINA Doping Panel will take place after the analysis of her B sample.
Meanwhile, Cuban diver Jose Guerra Oliva, who has been provisionally suspended since Sept. 22, 2006, has been cleared due to a technicality. The sanction was lifted "as the persons who conducted the analysis of the ‘B' sample were also involved in the analysis of the ‘A' sample," as stated by the FINA Doping Panel. According to the panel, "this was a violation of the International Standards for Laboratories and such a departure from the International Standard is serious enough to cause the acquittal of the athlete."
