ROCHESTER – Devin Wolbert, an 11-year-old from New Baltimore, Mich., will officially sign with the Oakland men’s swimming and diving program Saturday, April 18, associate head coach Shawn Kornoelje announced today. Devin’s signing will be held at 3 p.m. at the Athletics Center O’rena on the Oakland University campus.

Devin joins the Golden Grizzlies thanks to Team IMPACT, a nonprofit organization that matches children facing life-threatening and chronic illnesses with local college athletic programs.

With the signing of his National Letter of Intent, Devin will attend Oakland swimming meets, practices and workouts.

“Devin is a great fit for our program,” Kornoelje said. “He’s passionate and enthusiastic, and his energy is infectious. His impact on our program is limitless, and our team is excited to have him as an integral part of the Oakland swimming and diving family. We are grateful to have this opportunity to work with Team IMPACT.”

Devin has been diagnosed with Ehlers Danlos Syndrome (EDS) and also has a bicuspid aortic valve with stenosis; his body is in constant pain and he fatigues easily, and relies on leg braces and a wheelchair to assist with daily activities.
