Denver Relays

DENVER, Colorado. October 9. THE University of Denver men’s and women’s swimming teams posted strong performances in the Denver Relays in the El Pomar Natatorium. The Pioneer men posted a first-place finish, ahead of Mesa State, while the Pioneer women finished second behind the Colorado State women’s team.

For the day, the men turned in seven first-place times, six second-place finishes and two third place times, while the women registered two first-place times, eight second-place finishes and four third-place times.

In the first event of the day, the Pioneer women grabbed first place in the 200-yard Medley Relay finshing almost a full second ahead of CSU. The team of Bailey Beins, Grace Kittle, Melissa Greeves and Kristin Schmid turned in a time of 1:46.34 to grab 18 points.

On the men’s side, the Pioneer relay teams grabbed the top three spots as the team of Austin Fowler, Jay Giddens, Garth Summers and Scott Madaras turned in a winning time of 1:36.48.

In the men’s 1500 Freestyle 3×500 Relay, the team of Summers, Tyler Pennington and Robert Barrett grabbed first-place honors with a time of 14:55.78, finishing well ahead of the pack be over two minutes.

In the women’s 300-yard Butterfly Relay, Denver secured the top spot as the team of Greeves, Olivia Dean and Hayley Ettelson touched in a time of 2:54.68, ahead of the CSU team that posted a time of 2:56.79. On the men’s side, the team of Jeff Cox, Madaras and Cole Worsley turned in a time of 2:38.76 to finish in first-place.

In the men’s 300-yard Backtroke 3×100 Relay, the team of Jeff Giddens, Caleb Severns and Fowler posted a time of 2:41.13 to claim 18 first-place points, while the team of Mark Maguire, Andy Lee and Severns turned in a time of 3:04.06 in the 300-yard Breaststroke 3×100 Relay.

In the men’s 100-yard Freestyle 4×25 Relay the team of Madaras, Worsley, Summers and Fowler once again posted a strong performance as it touched in with a time of 39.32 for first-place honors. In the men’s 400-yard Medley 4×100 Relay, the Pioneer team of Cox, Summers, Fowler and Gannon Totura turned in a time of 3:38.77 to finish ahead of the field.
